SHUCKS! THE Louisiana Seafood House!!! opened its doors in 1995. Twelve years later in 2007 local longtime restaurateurs (Bert Istre & David Bertrand) joined forces and purchased this well known local eating establishment. Bert & David set out to expand the scope of the menu while maintaining the integrity of the original recipes. The result was an explosion of popularity far beyond the city limits of Abbeville. SHUCKS! became a destination & many would make pilgrimages to this simple diner, not only for a taste of authentic Cajun food but equally important, true Cajun hospitality.
Guests from other areas in Louisiana & other states began inquiring about the possibility of opening a SHUCKS! in their area. Few of these ever made it beyond the asking. However in 2019 a group of prominent businessmen from Lake Charles, LA. began showing up in Abbeville to enjoy a meal at SHUCKS! At first these men seemed like folks who just wanted to get a taste of real Cajun food. The visits became more frequent and acquaintances became friends. Eventually the conversations turned to the possibilities of opening a SHUCKS! in Lake Charles, LA. Many, many obstacles & challenges prevented the dream of SHUCKS! Lake Charles to become a reality.
On May 5th, 2025 the dream & vision of these committed businessmen became a reality and SHUCKS! Lake Charles opened its doors on the tranquil banks Contraband Bayou. In only a few short months tens of thousands of SHUCKS! fans have kicked back, shared a meal and even danced a little at SHUCKS! Lake Charles. Combining touches of the original diner in Abbeville with an eye on the future, this location is a beacon of Cajun culture in southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas.
